Progressive Dinner
The weather as always here at the Ranch was awesome. Instead of having a progressive dinner we decided to have an hors d’oeuvre evening at John and Deans’ site. Their place in the shade was lit with candles and citronella and a gentle breeze was blowing. There was everything from favorite drinks to freshly fried egg rolls. Everyone had a great time and instead of having to go from site to site it was all arranged in one area. The event proved to be a big hit and hope we have more to come. Thanks to John and Dean for an AWESOME EVENING!
Cinco de Mayo
Again, as always, the weather was marvelous for camping. Both RV and tent camping. The campers had a really good time. It was not too hot and had cool crisp mornings. The turnout for the Cook Off was awesome and lots and lots of great food was consumed. First place went to Bob E. with his chicken fajita mix, second place went to Robert H with his awesome casserole and third place went to Jeff M with his incredible beef enchilada mix casserole. OMG – the judges had a really hard time as everything they tasted was mouth-watering. Thanks to EVERYONE who was here and had a great time. The traditional piñata was a hit as always with lots of candy for both children and adults. Though I must admit, in my opinion, one of the “perms” had a little too much fun with the remaining piñata, LOL.
Spring Bear Round Up
WOW… lots and lots of Bears! Bears everywhere…the weather was great, the campground in super great condition, flags flying proudly, and the pool was open. Super great weekend! JD and Morgan’s Meet and Greet was a huge hit. Everyone had plenty of Bud Light and Terry as DJ gave music to soothe even these growling bears Friday night. Saturday, the Volleyball tournament/games also hosted by JD and Morgan took place and everyone volleyed and drank! Saturday evening in the Pavilion, the party hosted by DJ Terry had more music, more dancing and more beer. The place was packed to capacity and once again, as always, a great time was had at Rainbow Ranch Campground.
Memorial Day 2013
Wow! Great weather! Super great friends, old and new! Awesome DJ! There were hot dogs for everyone with so many different toppings and delectable side dishes. Oh, and don’t forget the Annual Memorial Day Drag Show MC’d by the infamous Shae Champagne. (and she didn’t even fall off the stage this year). The performers were at their peak and even had a few new ones who knocked the lights out – literally. We had everything from Country to Modern Pop and it was spectacular.
This was one of the BEST shows ever at Rainbow Ranch. The weather cooperated for the most part. There was a brief downpour just as everything was set up, but it quickly left and cooled the temps so it was bearable and comfortable. All in all it was a super relaxing and friend filled long weekend. Sunday morning early the Bears started packing and headed for their home dens. Until the Fall! To all the Bears, near and far, we will see you again when it’s cooler.
Upcoming Events:
Volleyball Tournament and Pool Party
These two events combined are shaping up to be as fun filled and full of sportsmanship and competition. Anytime a weekend is coordinated by none other than JD, you are guaranteed to have a great time. During the Pool Party, there will be burgers and dogs grilling on the side. Make sure you bring your favorite side dish to the party.
Casino Night/Poker Run
What can one say when the starting gun is fired and golf carts and legs go in all different directions attempting to find the elusive poker hand from hints and directions all over Rainbow Ranch Campground. Who knows where they will find that one card that will finish their perfect hand and be the Top Dog in Poker. Then join us in the Pavilion Saturday night to play some of your favorite Casino games and fellowship. Good friends, great music, an awesome time for all!
4th of July
Spending the 4th at the Ranch with your family and friends is always an awesome way to celebrate our freedom. In so many ways this is a time for reflection and celebration. Come reflect while watching the fireworks over Lake Limestone. Come celebrate with your Ranch family and who knows, you might leave after making some new friends and welcome them into your family also.

2012 New Years Weekend
What can one say when we decide to spend the end of the year and the start of the New Year with our friends and family at our favorite meeting place and home away from home – Rainbow Ranch!
The weather was not very cooperative but that didn’t stop anyone from enjoying the end of the year with a super great Potluck, one of the best firework displays, and champagne toasts to ring in the New Year. Seems like it was just yesterday that we were all together and rang in 2012 and now it’s 2013.
Wishing everyone safe, prosperous and healthy 2013!
2nd Annual Golf Cart Road-EO!
Wow! What can you say about the duo of Dean and Paul! Awesome! This was one of the BEST events of the Year! Everything from the contests – Egg race – Golf Cart Synchronized Slalom – Bite the Weenie – to the weather! The contestants were mostly sober and everyone had a blast.
The winners were:
1st place – Dan and Mark – Tenters – 1st time here – IMPRESSIVE!
After the games, there was a Golf Cart Scavenger Hunt/Poker Run for all involved. Many were led to places they didn’t know existed.
A fried chicken Potluck was held in the evening and everyone ate their fill and then some.
Who wants to see this exciting weekend repeated as an Annual Summer Golf Cart Rodeo? Let us know and we will make it happen.
Drag Bingo / Valentine’s Day 2013
What happens when you mix the following ingredients? Bingo, drag, Valentines’ Day, alcohol, food, disco lights, an awesome DJ, WACKED OUT Bingo Callers, ladies in waiting, close family and lots of friends? Oh and PRIZES!
The weekend was the perfect weather mix, cool in the morning and warming up through the day to an awesome love inspiring sunset!
The hors d’oeuvres were perfect and everyone filled up on them for a long night of Bingo.
Where else can you gather men and women together like we do and have one HOOT of a time?
Many thanks to Lady Ava’Lanche and Lady K all their hard work in organizing this weekend and can you imagine the time it took them to look as ‘purty” as they did. Then we had Tammy Truckstop, BB and many others who spent their evening making sure that everyone had a super great time and enjoyed themselves at it.
Can’t wait till the next time and more family and friends as we continue to grow.
To the person who took the Birthday Cake for John Doe – hope it was good! IT WAS NOT A PRIZE. LOL
I only have one question left for the Bingo caller – Diane. How do you make a V design on a Bingo card?
Tree Planting Weekend
Wow! Over 35 NEW TREES were planted this weekend and they are going to give the campground a lot of new shade in the very near future. In prep for the weekend we got Wilson’s Tree Service to come out and pre-dig the holes for the trees the hard way – with a back-hoe. This was not without its own set of problems ( i.e. water lines that were not supposed to be where they were, electric lines that just appeared under the dirt and even the main phone lines where they were not supposed to be, But WE WILL SURVIVE! A big thank you to everybody who helped out!
Easter
Could we ask for a more beautiful weekend at the Ranch for Easter Weekend? It was awesome. Everyone was working in their yards, getting them mowed and cleaned up for Spring. The new trees are getting their new leaves and are flourishing. We did not have but a few pooch contestants but the Easter bonnets were awesome.
There was a great potluck and everyone got their fill and relaxed and visited with friends, both old and new.
Womyns’ Fest Spring 2013
The weather was awesome, the grounds looked impressive and the ladies arrived by the truckloads. This was one of the BEST Womyns’ Fest ever.
Friday evening there was a Meet and Greet (BYOB) at the Pavilion and allowed everyone to mingle with old friends and NEW friends from near and far. DJ Terry played background music then followed with music for a short dance under the stars evening.
Saturday morning, most of the ladies woke up (LOL) and joined Kim and Jules and their awesome crew in the Pavilion for the famous Bloody Mary and Mimosa Bar. It was very well attended and I believe it was just what the doctor ordered for some to be able to get motivated for the day.
As they got their inspiration it was off to the new and improved nature trail which offers 1.2 miles of walking BEAUTY. Thanks again to Kim, Jules, Deb and lots more of the Women of the Ranch, this new trail offers a unique perspective into the beauty, serenity, and solitude that the Ranch has to offer.
After the nature walk it was time for a break before the Washer Tournament down by the volleyball court. There were literally dozens of teams and everyone had a blast pitching washers and throwing down more of those Bloody Marys and beverages of their own choice. Some got a little too much sun, but hey, it was all in the name of fun and camaraderie. Even Anton participated and had a blast.
Saturday evening we were serenaded and blessed with the awesome voice of ANTON SHAW and the Bad Habits. Everyone listened and captured the remarkable talent that she has to offer. We were serenaded for over 3 hours with her voice and she had t-shirts and koozies for sale. She even signed them and was also noted signing someone’s sweat pants on the back side.
Couldn’t ask for better weather, better friends or a better safer place where one and all can feel safe and inspired.
We won!!! Woohoo!!! — BEST WEEKEND GETAWAY 2013 from the Dallas Voice!

On a more somber note:
A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Bobbi Billingsley was held Saturday, March 23rd at the Cathedral of Hope Church in Dallas. A reception followed after the service in the Fellowship Hall. Bobbi introduced RumChata to many of us at the Ranch. We miss you Bobbi but we bask in the knowledge that you are now pain free and looking down upon us all from above. On the wings of an Angel.

Vendor Weekend— by Debbie
Our vendor weekend was a huge success! We had 2 vendors there raising money for great, worthwhile causes. One was for helping fight HIV/AIDS and the other was for this family to give every child a safety helmet whether for bikes, roller blades or ATVs. We bought delicious goodies to support these causes so it was truly a win win situation. There were also keychains, jewelry, cute photo frames, mosquito deterrents and last but certainly not least….brand new golf carts!!! We had a wonderful time buying, bragging, showing and “look what I got!!”ing! Hope to see you there next year!
Labor Day— by Debbie
Labor Day this year was fan-tas-tic!!! Chuck, owner of the Rip Cord Club in Houston, bought 250 ribeyes from our local butcher and 250 potatoes! Ummmmmm! We ate and ate and ate and swam in the pool. As always we meet “old” friends that we hadn’t seen in a while and made a bunch of new ones. What a glorious way to celebrate the social and economic achievements of American workers!
Womyn’s Fest— by Debbie
Womyn’s Fest 2012 was one of the BEST this Ranch has ever seen! Friday night we held a meet and greet on stage with 2 kegs of beer and a great dance! On Saturday, we served coffee and donuts to get the day started right. Then it was on to the volleyball court for a great tournament which rewarded the winners with 200 jello shots! Of course, being the sweet folks that they are, the winners shared those jello shots abundantly! After volleyball the entire Womyn’s Fest attendees shared hotdogs and chips. Saturday night was the big treat with entertainment from comedian Vickie Shaw followed by singer Laurel and her band. Wow! If you didn’t make it this year be sure and put it on your calendar for next year! Rumor has it that Vickie Shaw loved Rainbow Ranch so much that she wants to come back every year! WaHoo!!!
Fall Fur Fest— by Ranch Robert
Fall Fur Fest 2012 was a huge success. Everyone came camping to meet up with friends, to make new friends, to share stories of the past and make new ones of the future. The weather was awesome, the Bears were great. We ate, we drank, we danced, we mingled. Made a lot of new friends and more to come in the Spring. Watch the website for the date of the Spring Bear Round Up and make your reservation early.
There are always many volunteers who help make every event a success at Rainbow Ranch and for EVERYONE I SAY THANK YOU.
Oktoberfest— by Debbie
This year’s Oktoberfest wasn’t just good….it was GREAT! There was every kind of beer there known to mankind! The food was great and the games were on. I think I lost repeatedly at Beer Pong. Yep, I was seeing a lot of cup bottoms …a lot! And then Diane’s brother’s band, Dream Arena, rocked the pavilion for hours! They are gooooood! Check ‘em out on the web! Tracie and Diane did an outstanding job organizing, setting up and cleaning up the event! Thanks ladies for all your hard work and all with beautiful smiles!

Memorial Day Weekend – by Debbie
Rainbow Ranch was PACKED for the annual Memorial Day Drag Show! It was fabulous!!! The talent was amazing! We laughed, we cried, we cheered for these extraordinary drag queens! AND, they generously donated the bucketful of tips to the Ranch to help replace the many trees we lost due to the drought last year. So, here’s a big thanks to you super stars for sharing your talent, your hearts and your money! We love you!!! In addition to the show we also had great dances all three nights thanks to our awesome DJ Terry!!! We swam in the pool, celebrated our Brad’s birthday, and best of all, spent precious time with family and friends.
Poker Run and Casino Night – by Debbie
Cha-ching, cha-ching! What a night we had!!!!! Just like Vegas you could hear screams of delight, cheers of winning, and belly-wrenching laughter as about 50 of us “fought to the death” to raise money for our tree replacing fund! I heard over and over….”This is one of the best events we’ve ever had!” So, you can rest assured that this event will be on the calendar next year! I think we need to take C.J. to Vegas!!
Pool party, Cookout and Dive In
It could not have been any hotter at the ranch for the Pool Party. The pool was cool though! Everybody stayed cool while enjoying cold beverages. The pool was packed all afternoon. We had some great burgers and hot dogs around 4:00. That evening, we watched “The Bangor Sisters” and it is hilarious! We almost made it through the movie and then the rain came. Now everybody will have to see it again to catch the ending!

Summer is upon us! It’s getting hot already. Never fear! We have the pool ready for the heat. The ladies at the ranch were successful at getting it beautiful and blue. Trash Disco
It was a blast!!! It was hysterically funny!!!! You should have been here!!! The pictures don’t do justice. Rumor has it that it was one of the best events ever! We danced our legs off to great disco music provided by Ron. The judging committee selected the best site decoration and best costumes. The winner of the site decoration was site 116 belonging to Debbie and Maggie. They had undies on the fence, a homeless looking man who was actually their son lying in a sleeping bag being, well, a bum! He was distressed because he couldn’t find his false teeth which were in the dog bowl! Yuk!!!!! Everything was for sale and they even had a payment plan!! Second and third place went to a group decorating effort. Two camp sites went in together to do a great disco scene with, of course, strobe lights! Second place went to Tara from Arlington and third place went to Lisa also from Arlington. The costumes were fabulous and truly disco. The judges selected Brian for 3rd place, Debbie for 2nd and Michael for first place. Congratulations!
You have GOT to put this weekend on your calendar for next year!
Weekend with Anton Shaw
What an absolutely glorious, heartfelt, wonderful weekend we had with Anton and her band!!!! Friday night we were treated to Karaoke, getting a little preview of Anton’s show on Saturday night, and heard really good singers too! O.k., o.k., we heard some pretty good singers and some downright not so good singers! But all of them just made it that more fun!! Saturday morning Anton and her partner, Shawna, kicked it off with a washers tournament. There was great competition and lots of laughs at that event too! I’ve never seen so much excitement, high fives and hugging going on when a “lesser” athletically talented one hit the hole! For a minute there I thought we were at the Washer Olympics!!! The afternoon was spent meeting new folks, reconnecting with “old” ones and eating great food. Then, Anton filled us up with great song after song after song!!! I’m sitting here trying to express to you what she was like but the only word that keeps coming to mind is WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!!! Thank you Anton for giving us a part of your heart and soul Saturday night. We will always cherish your gift!
Keep your eyes on our web page because we’re going to try to get Anton back with us this Fall. She is truly someone you DON’T want to miss!
Cinco de Mayo/Volleyball Weekend
On Saturday, May 5, we celebrated Cinco de Mayo with a rip roarin’ volleyball game! We had “dive on your belly” hits, “face in the sand” hits and some “where did that ball come from?!?” NON hits! Those of us cheering our favorite teams on were doing so in the shade drinking Bloody Marys! What a great way to watch friends and family fight to the end to be the champs! The champs received about 300 jello shots to enjoy and pass out to friends. That evening we had a delicious dinner in the pavilion and we were graciously entertained by Carlos doing drag.
Put it on your calendar for next year! We need someone to challenge that number one volleyball team!!!!!!!!
Spring Bear Round Up
Wow! Wow!! and Wow!!! We certainly did round up a lot of bears, cubs and otters! Friday night at the Meet and Greet friends connected with old friends and made a ton of new friends. Then, they danced their socks off until 1:00 A.M. to the tunes of DJ C-Rail!
Saturday morning brought a few headaches, a lot of smiles, lots of fun in the pool, playing badminton, Mexican horseshoes, canoeing in the lake, sunning, and soaking up the special ambiance that can only be found at Rainbow Ranch! Saturday night DJ Terry provided great music for the bears to get down to and boy, did they!!
So, another GREAT Spring Bear Round-up for Rainbow Ranch was had by all. If you want to book a spot for next year we start taking reservations on Jan. 1, 2013. See ya then!

Mardi Gras
In spite of the rain, we had a great Mardi Gras here at Rainbow Ranch. The day started with shopping for beads, bracelets and tons of Mardi Gras goodies provided by Rob. Then we had a great gathering eagerly awaiting the Parade! The raindrops kept falling but finally gave us a break around 4:00 and the Parade took off lead by Reece. That evening, we had a potluck with lots of tasty Cajun dishes. Afterwards, DJ Wrong Ron did an awesome job playing some tunes and lots of dancing was going on.
Spring Womyn’s Fest
Glorious, absolutely glorious are the words to describe our rather waterlogged Womyn’s Fest!!!! We danced the night away twice which is saying a lot for this 59 year old gal. The music was awesome thanks to our little Jamie. We played games, met lots of new folks and discovered once again just how special these girls and guys are here at Rainbow Ranch. We are truly a family here and we just keep adding new sisters and brothers. Wow! It just can’t get any better than this, honestly! I promise….

Prom Night
Did you hate your prom? Or maybe you didn’t even get to go to your prom! Well, let me tell you…we had a prom to top ALL proms! Since MOST of us graduated in the 70′s and 80′s ( we won’t mention the few who graduated in the 90′s!!) the music was delightfully set back to those eras. We crowned a prom king and queen, laughed, danced and had a great time with all the prom attendees, servers and “school” staff chaperones. We plan on having another one next year so dust off your dudes and come join us!
Valentines Day/Drag Bingo
Last weekend we had our Valentine’s Day Drag Bingo. There were 54 bingo players, being directed by our own Sally as the “caller” and Tony “Buzz” as her helper. I walked around with my mouth hanging opened starring at all the beautiful drag queens. They really got a charge when I kept asking them if I knew them!!! We played bingo till the cows came home and then some! Lots of cool gifts were brought and the favorites were the ones containing vodka, rum, etc! Hard to imagine, huh? We had a best-dressed contest and the winner was our very own Carrie!!!! Yep, my face turned red when she rubbed up against me with her ??????? Put this event on your calendar next year, for sure!

Rainbow Ranch Newsletter – January 2012

Happy New Year! We had a great holiday season at the ranch and we are looking forward to a fun filled 2012. We have added some new events to our schedule including the Golf Cart Rodeo, Poker Run/Casino Night, a Spring Women’s weekend and a Prom Night (next weekend). 2011 was a great year and this one’s going to be even better.
Recent Events
New Years Weekend
If you weren’t here for New Year’s Eve you should have been! We had a spectacular fireworks display and then we danced the year away to all kinds of music. Then, of course, we counted down the seconds wearing our party hats and we let the New Year know WE ARE HERE at Rainbow Ranch with whistles, confetti, champagne and hoots and hollers! We then started the New Year with Black Eyed Peas, mimosas and Happy New Year hugs and kisses. It was a great way to start the new year.
MLK and 1st Annual Golf Cart Rodeo
We had so much fun this past weekend with the First Annual Rainbow Ranch Golf Cart Rodeo. We also had an awesome MLK potluck dinner. In the Golf Cart Rodeo, we had contestants in 15 golf carts competing in 6 events. The events included an egg race, a blind driver obstacle course, Bite the Weenie, musical golf carts, and a poker race. There was a great audience and the events were hilarious to watch. Look for the pictures coming to our website soon. Congratulations to Rob and Dave, our first Golf Cart Rodeo winners! A big thank you goes out to Dean and Paul for putting this event together. It was a huge success and we can’t wait until next year to do it again!
Upcoming Events
Prom Night – Weekend of January 28th
Did you miss your high school prom or have so much fun that you’d like to do it again? Dust off your powder blue suit or your prom dress and come on down to the pavilion for fun and dancing. This is our first Prom Night and it should be tons of fun.
Valentines Day/Drag Bingo – Weekend of February 11th
What better place to spend Valentine’s Day than Rainbow Ranch? Come on down and join in the festivities to celebrate your special someone. This year, we have teamed Valentines Day with Drag Bingo. So, put on your best wig and outfit and come play some bingo. If you don’t “do drag”, come on as you are!
